The idea of Canal Veterinary Hospital began in 1978 when Dr. Richard L. Baker wanted to bring veterinary service to the community of Denair, California. Four years later, Richard was diagnosed with incurable lung cancer. Richard’s brother, Dr. Gary Baker, came alongside him to help further establish the hospital. The practice continued to grow throughout the next few years, which led to the grand opening of Canal Veterinary Hospital in 1986. Dr. Debra Tilson St. Louis (now a mother of 5 residing in Colorado), Dr. Craig Brooks (now the owner of Taylor Veterinary Hospital), and Dr. Deron Larsson were hired throughout the growth of the practice.
Canal Veterinary Hospital was built through loss and trials, upon the legacy of helping a brother in need, while further appreciating the role our own pets have had in comforting us as well. We place high value on nurturing and promoting Gods’ purposes for the human-animal bond. He has consistently used domestic animals throughout history to be humankind’s “best friend.”
At Canal Veterinary Hospital, we consider ourselves a “family practice” for companion pets; hence our motto “serving pets and their family.” Dr. Heather Deleon, who previously worked for us as a kennel/veterinary assistant in High School, joined our team in 2017. Her exceptional clinical and people skills complement Dr. Larsson’s 30 plus years of veterinary experience to significantly enhance our legacy of compassionate care. Please let us come along side you as you care for your treasured gift from God.
